Pitch fibre drains were laid in the 1960’s and 70’s and many of them have now started to breakdown and deform. If the deformation is less than 20% and the pipe has not bellied out then it may be possible to reform and then line the pipe with a structural liner. If the deformation is greater than 20% or has bellied out then the pipe will require excavation or replacement by other no dig techniques such as pipe bursting.

Freeflow has just completed a project for a local health authority where a 150mm diameter pitch fibre pipe runs under a building. The pipe had started to collapse, to carry out a conventional excavation and replacement would have closed the building for at least a week if not more. Freeflow reformed the pipe and then installed a structural liner. All this was carried out within one working day without any disruption to the hospital.
