Excavations Chichester

Drain Excavations

When a problem is too severe to be resolved by reform or no-dig options, excavations are necessary. Freeflow has expert engineers who closely assess your drain, in order to discover the cause of various problems and offer a solution. Fully-trained professionals will dig a trench or a hole depending on the size of the pipework in order to access and repair any problems. This technique is used when part of or the entire system needs replacing. Excavations are also carried out as part of diversions and installation of underground pipework.

When are excavations needed?

Certain more minor problems can be fixed from work overground such as pipe reforms and lining, but if the pipework is too damaged to be repaired in this way then excavations might be required. There are several types of problems that might mean excavations are necessary, such as flooding, root ingress and pipe disconnection caused by earth subsidence or other displacements.

Types of Excavations

Freeflow has a team of experts familiar with conventional excavation techniques, to access drainage systems for repairs. Often this is done by hand through digging to reach domestic pipework for smaller repairs. Excavators and machinery can be used with care and precision on more extensive projects. Freeflow offers solutions to excavations in Chichester, and across the south coast. As well as domestic and commercial repair, Freeflow also has the expertise and equipment to carry out larger scale highway excavations.

Freeflow Excavations

Freeflow has undertaken different types of excavations for various projects. These include the diversion of a 900mm public stormwater sewer. This was due to the subsiding of a building above the pipes. A new manhole had to be constructed which was 2.3m deep. 40m of new drainage was installed and the old piping was filled with concrete.

Another project carried out was the installation of a 10 x 15m soakaway for the Ministry of Defence. A combination of concrete rings and crates were covered by a plastic membrane, replacing the existing soakaway, an open pit that had ceased to function.

Health and Safety

Freeflow only carries out excavations as a last resort as they are a delicate and complex procedure. Excavations Chichester and the south coast always follow the local water authority’s specifications and inspections. A thorough site inspection will be carried out before any excavations and all risk assessment and health and safety will be taken into consideration. The well-being of workers and passers-by could be affected by larger projects so this will be thoroughly assessed. This could be related to the disposal or storage of excavated materials, which will be taken care of, of course. The expert team will do their best to return the site to its original condition, in the quickest and least disruptive way possible.
